Hiawassee Elementary School

This is our last full week of school and FSA testing is now completed. However, all 5th grade students will still be taking End of Course Exams in Art, Music, Physical Education and Health. Testing is scheduled for Monday, May 20 through Thursday, May 23 starting at 8:30 each morning. Each session is 60 minutes in duration.

Summer is just around the corner! Traditionally, summer is a wonderful time for students to travel and enjoy family. However, I also want to encourage you to also set aside some time for students to read daily and practice their math facts.

It has been a great year of learning at Hiawassee! Thanks for your continued support and have a terrific summer!

Mrs. Jenkins
Principal

Hiawassee's Battle of The Books Team
Several fifth grade students traveled to Ocoee High School for the annual Battle of the Books competition. Our students worked very hard reading the Sunshine State (SSYRA) books and preparing for the competition; they definitely had a great time!

Congratulations to: Nolda Geneus (Captain), Miguel Gutierrez Pion, Christ Jean, Kenia Franois and Myron Divers.

Stop the Summer Slide!
Please visit OCPSReads.ocps.net to obtain reading lists by grade level and to search for books, apps, interactive literacy websites, e-books, parent resources, and literacy events around town.

Students can access the Beanstack App through Launchpad and register for the OCPS Summer Reading Challenge through the website. All students have to do is read, read, and read some more; the app will log their minutes electronically.

This summer, OCPS is challenging OCPS students to read 5 million minutes!

The theme for the challenge is "A Universe of Stories...What's your Story?"

Please upload any pictures and videos using #OCPSReads to share stories about why reading is important in your family, why your child loves to read, what is your child's favorite book, or a quick preview of a book you think everyone should read.
